报告摘要:Motile bacteria such as Escherichia coli detect and track chemical gradients with extraordinary precision. A supramolecular array of transmembrane chemoreceptors and cytoplasmic signaling kinases comprises the “brain” of the bacterial chemotaxis machinery. The receptor array responds with very high cooperativity to small changes in attractant or repellent concentration. We have identified the sources of array cooperativity and are exploiting array-defective mutants to understand signal transmission within receptor core complexes, the minimal signaling units of the array network.
